The Heirisson Island Tournament Water Ski Club is situated on the Swan River, in the heart of Perth. Our headquarters are located opposite the Burswood Casino.
The club is part of the Australian Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (AWWF) and promotes Tournament water skiing in Western Australia. We welcome new members of all levels and abilities who want to improve their skills or learn the sport. No experience is necessary! As a club, we ski most Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday mornings throughout Summer. However, club members are able to use the excellent facilities at our Burswood site year round.
All members are encouraged to participate in our regular tournaments, in one or more of disciplines: slalom, trick or jump. We offer a number of benefits to new members including advanced coaching, excellent facilities, holiday ski schools and the best water ski location in Australia. We are home to beginners trying to improve their skills as well as State, Australian and World Champions.
HIT is a happy, social and active club that is growing and continues to see numerous successes. For further information regarding membership contact Dawson Miller (dawson@westnet.com.au) our Club President (Immediate Past, Acting).
Club Boat & Skiing
The HIT club has a new Malibu TXi ski boat that was used in the 2023 Nationals, held at Bonney's Waterpark, WA. It will in the water on set days and times (weather depending) plus additional times organised by the skippers (see below). All usage will be visible to other members through an online or mobile app system called Spond, which is managed by our Club Boat Scheduler. The Club Secretary can connect you for more details.
Launching, Retrieving and Driving
Management of the club boat works under a ‘Skipper’ and ‘Driver’ system: Skippers are able to launch/retrieve and drive the boat (meeting the requirements below) after being shown the key steps, systems and processes by Alan Dagg. Drivers are able to drive the boat and needs a WA boat license (WA Skipper’s Ticket) and to have completed the WAWA level 1 driver course, which includes practical assessment.
Skiing
Getting onto the water works under a ticket system. Members wishing to ski behind the club boat are required to submit a ski ticket BEFORE they ski. Tickets are also available to buy in books of 20 or 40 which provides a discount to a single ticket.
Pricing:
1 Ski Ticket = $30.00
20 Ski tickets = $450 = $22.50 each
40 Ski Tickets = $800 = $20.00 each
Where to buy:
Single tickets are available from the boat at the time of skiing and books of tickets are available from either Dawson Miller or Alan Dagg, who will record ticket numbers. Payment is straight to the club bank account.
Tickets are non-transferable and for use with one individual or family membership. Prior to your run, you simply tear off a ticket for each ski session and place in the ticket bag on the dock.

What constitutes being a good member?
Volunteers are the lifeblood of most clubs and at the HIT Club we are no exception. We have a dedicated committee who strive to ensure our club continues to develop and provide members with services that add value to their membership.
Examples of these are:
1. Proper accountability of membership fees and club monies
2. A successful Club Boat program
3. Tournaments
4. Sourcing sponsorship arrangements
5. Creating an environment where potential and new members feel welcome
6. Conducting ski clinics with professional coaching.
Over the last 4 seasons the committee has worked to lift the conduct and profile of the club. The club also now has a very good working relationship with WAWSA and Tournament Division (TD) to the extent that the TD now comes to the club with requests for assistance.
HIT Club’s commitment to the Burswood Water Sports Complex and water usage rights includes the club’s responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of the slalom course and ski jump and to promote tournament water skiing in the area.
The difference between a good ski club and a great ski club is not how many national champions we produce, or how well the clubhouse is appointed, but having members who are passionate about their club. This is why we have a great ski club and, with input from members, it will continue to be a great ski club.
